Solidarity Fundraiser for BAPS temple workers
We are raising this money to support former workers from the BAPS Temple in Robbinsville, NJ. These workers were brought to the US as “religious volunteers” and then forced to work 13-hour shifts for weeks on end with no time off and paid just a little more than one dollar an hour by temple management. Swaminarayan workers began organizing for their rights after their coworker Mohanlal died on the job and temple management did not send his body back to his family.
On May 11th workers at the temple in Robbinsville, New Jersey, filed a class action lawsuit and afterwards the FBI raided BAPS for wage theft and human trafficking. The NJ temple workers are now trying to get back on their feet and integrate into new communities. APALA is raising money to support the workers and their families. Funds will be used to support the workers and their families in India as they seek employment and transition out of federal custody. Please donate to stand in solidarity with the NJ temple workers who are fighting for their rights in the face of harassment and retaliation!
